I’ll update this page with info on what is coming up and also, we’re I’ve been.
NOVEMBER 2017 –Hangzhou China with lectures at Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, followed by a well-organized 2-day training class by my new colleagues Tao Guo and Dr Jin Zhang. They were terrific and I look forward to future collaborations.
OCTOBER 2017 – research trip to Canada (emotions in the workplace). Lecture to Minister of Health in Kazan and a talk in Moscow.
SEPT 2017: several great events – Yale School of Medicine talk and MSCEIT in Florence. Florence was fabulous – our session was at Castel Ruggero in the hillside south of Florence and included great wines each day and vineyard tour.
MAY 2017: speaker at VT Federal Credit Union. Fun! And, a mention in the Sheryl Sandberg / Adam Grant book called Option B — about which I am very pleased. The quote was around how people ask “how are you?” without expecting a real answer, with the demand in some cultures that you reply “great” or “awesome”. This is not helpful, does not promote awareness, and creates pressure on people to act “as if” all is well.
APRIL 2017: ran a MSCEIT course for a firm in London.
MARCH 2017: 2 excellent workshops at Loyola in LA. Then a 3-day MSCEIT session in New Haven which will forever be remembered as the Blizzard of 2017 Workshop. Out of that great experience we decided to start a MSCEIT LinkedIn group as a way to keep in touch. Contact me or Lisa to join (limited to people we certify). Went back to Wharton the last day of March – this group of leadership fellows did a terrific job of connecting the skills to their work.
FEBRUARY 2017: MSCEIT certification in UK.
DECEMBER 2016: back to Russia for a presentation and a full-day workshop. Excellent sessions. One more session – domestic – next week and that should be it for 2016.
NOVEMBER 2016: a day at Wharton for EI training. Gave a talk at the Naval War College in Newport RI.
OCTOBER 2016: Trip to Facebook for an SEL conference, inspirED, very interesting and it was inspiring. Then a day in Santiago Chile for a talk. Went to Moscow where I presented to mayors of small “mono towns” in Russia and was interviewed on Russian TV. From Moscow went to Dubai for MSCEIT Certification. It was snowing when I left Moscow and it was 95 in Dubai. This was a really productive month! November sees more local events.
AUGUST 2016: 2-day MSCEIT Certification course in New Haven went very well.. Thanks to all for attending, for your great ideas, and for your enthusiasm! Next up: 2-day research meeting in Canada.
JULY 2016: no long-distance travel for business for some time. Summer is terrific, just too short. My focus in July, actually, is to maximize my kayaking miles (572 miles this year so far, a bit short of my goal). (About goal setting: I know goals are important but at some point, perhaps for personal and professional development, they can be counterproductive or decrease the intrinsic enjoyment of something. This has to do with tracking paddling miles and speed where I head out into terrible conditions and add miles even when worn out!)
JUNE 2016: The 2-day conference (and wedding) in Florence was a lot of fun. Then off to Utah for corporate training.
MAY 2016: Tokyo and Kyoto and a return to Dublin. (My half-day free in Dublin was superb: bright sun for my Bary to Greystones cliff walk. Japan, as always, is a great trip, this time with friend and colleague Jack Mayer.)
APR 2016: Loyola Marymount in LA for 2 days of training. From there to Amsterdam for alumni relations conference keynote and then Dublin for Irish Management Institute. Finally, a day in California.
MAR 2016: 3-day workshop in New Haven with a terrific bunch. Then off to Beijing for the launch of The Emotionally Intelligent Manager. A quick trip to Philly (Wharton) and then a few days in Moscow.
FEB 2016: Went to Ann Arbor for a client last week — to escape the snow of the Northeast! Not a drop of snow in Michigan or Ohio. Head to Dublin the end of February for a training course (2, back to back half-day sessions) and to do some planning at IMI Dublin.
JAN 2016: observed a course for a change at Google NYC office. Heading to Mountain View to run a training session on ‘Science of EI’ for sales people. That is, if JFK is open after the big storm two days ago!
DEC 2015: Princeton NJ again for Bristol Myers Squibb workshop on EI. In-person and webcast.
NOV 2015: Went back to Dublin and then once more to Moscow. These trips can be exhausting but also rewarding. Got to Dublin Sunday afternoon and took the train to Howth for a cliff walk in the rain. After my workshops met up with a colleague for a Guinness (truly excellent beer when served correctly!). Moscow was busy: received an honorary degree from IBS (business school), gave a talk and had 3 different training sessions.
OCT 2015: Off to Moscow again for a few days!
SEPT 2015: One day session for BMS in Princeton is planned. Otherwise a slow month for travel.
AUGUST 2015: trips to California, Ann Arbor and back to Dublin.
JULY 2015: Toronto and MHS visit to talk MSCEIT. Grateful to them for this opportunity.
MAY 2015: Dublin and Moscow for EI training.
APRIL 2015: Gave a talk at US Citizenship and Immigration Services, part of Homeland Security on April 2. Talk about a mission-focused group! Plus, it has been years since I was in DC and it is a fabulous destination. April brought me to LA to Loyola Marymount for 2 days of training, then to Silicon Valley.
MARCH 2015: Wharton for two days — although these sessions are always interesting I learned a lot with this group. They are excellent. The 3-day certification course went extremely well. It was followed by a two-day faculty retreat for a section of the Yale School of Medicine. Most of it was focused on professional development with a small part on EI.
Waiting at Narita airport for my return flight home from Tokyo after a very quick trip. Had a train the trainer session which went “okay” in that I now need to make significant changes. A training for country directors went really well. And then had dinner Friday night with the person who first brought me (and Jack and Peter) to Tokyo about 15 years ago.
FEBRUARY 2015: Orlando Florida – sunny and warmer than Connecticut – for a few days of leadership training for the Association of Yale Alumni. Wow. And got to see Wally and Marilyn, visiting from Sydney. Always a pleasure.
JANUARY 2015: Mumbai to run an all-day EI workshop at K. J. Somaiya Institute. Great people and experience (thank you Hemangi!). While there, I gave a public talk on EI attended by more than 400 people and appeared in the Mumbai Mirror newspaper. (Thanks Parmesh!)
EI and leadership training for Yale School of Medicine Pulmonary section.
DECEMBER 2014: Moscow. 2 days of train the trainer and an all-day leadership development session in (somewhat) snowy and beautiful Moscow. Big thanks to Elena and Tatiana (and to Andrew as well).
NOVEMBER 2014: University of Rochester Medical Center. HR training session, leadership development, CEO team meeting. A world-class organization.
OCTOBER 2014: A whirlwind trip to Madrid, Valencia, Santiago, A Coruna. 4 cities in 5 days but I still had a chance to see Madrid with Ruth and family, and had a day in Santiago with Belen and Monica. Pilar got me from place to place. Thanks to all of you.
JULY 2014: MHS – Toronto
JUNE 2014: World Economic Forum in Geneva and then to Google’s London office.
MAY 2014: Google NYC.
APRIL 2014: Google Mountain View; Wharton – Philadelphia; Loyola Marymount University – LA.
